DHAKA, Dec 15, 2022 (BSS) - Workers Party President Rashed Khan Memon today protested the remarks of US Ambassador in Dhaka Peter Haas and said his remarks on martyred intellectuals' day is not only audacious but also disrespect to martyrs of Bangladesh Liberation War.

Menon also bitterly criticized ambassadors of the US and different western countries for their recent comments about Bangladesh politics and elections.

"What the US ambassadors and envoys of different western countries is telling about Bangladesh's elections and politics is a violation of diplomatic norms," the Workers Party president told journalists after placing wreaths on the graves of martyrs Badiuzzaman, Siraj and Mulluk Jahan at Gopigagh.

Menon said martyred intellectuals' day is a very painful day to the people of Bangladesh. On the eve of the victory of Liberation War, Jamaat-backed Al-Badar activities carried out a ruthless killing mission to make the country intellectually bankrupt, he said, adding that the United States not only helped Pakistani army and Jamaat men with arms and money but also played very open role to snatch the victory of Bangladesh Liberation War through the United Nations.

"When that United States and its ambassador accused Bangladesh of violating human rights, then it sounds extremely ridiculous," he said.

Al-Badar activists picked up three brothers-Badiuzzaman, Siraj and Mulluk Jahan from their Gopibagh residence and brutally killed them on December 14, 1971. Their bodies were recovered from Rayer Bazar Badhabhumi and buried in Gopibagh Panchayat graveyard.

Like previous years, teachers and students of Shaheed Siraj Government Primary School and local Awami League paid respect to them by placing wreaths on their graves on Martyred Intellectuals Day on December 14.
