Polling begins in Gaibandha amid tight security

GAIBANDHA, Feb 11, 2026 (BSS) - Voting in the 13th Parliamentary Election and Referendum-2026 began peacefully in all five constituencies of Gaibandha district at 7:30 am today amid tight security.

Polling will continue uninterrupted until 4:00 pm. 

According to the district election office, a total of 21,72,468 voters are expected to cast their votes at 675 polling centres across the five constituencies.

In Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj), 4,19,111 voters will cast their votes at 123 centres; in Gaibandha-2 (Gaibandha Sadar), 4,11,460 voters at 118 centres; in Gaibandha-3 (Palashbari-Sadullapur), 5,06,185 voters at 146 centres with 1,014 booths; in Gaibandha-4 (Gobindaganj), 4,68,384 voters at 146 centres; and in Gaibandha-5 (Saghatta-Fulchhari), 4,67,328 voters at 142 centres.

Though voter turnout was comparatively low in the early hours, the number of voters gradually increased as the morning advanced.

Superintendent of Police Md Jashim Uddin said members of the army, RAB, BGB and other law enforcement agencies were patrolling roads and important points to ensure voters could cast their ballots without difficulty.

A total of 40 candidates are contesting the election in the five constituencies of the district, said District Election Officer Mohammad Shahidul Islam.

Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Mohammad Masudur Rahman Mollah told BSS that all-out preparations had been completed to hold the election in a peaceful manner.
