DHAKA, Jan 28, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has announced plans to introduce a comprehensive public transport system for mothers, along with daycare and baby care centers, to support working women.

"We will introduce sufficient bus services, daycare facilities, and baby care centers to assist mothers, allowing them to continue their careers without compromising their responsibilities at home," he told a gathering of women at Monipur School in the Dhaka-15 constituency,

Dr Rahman highlighted the challenges mothers face in balancing work and child-rearing and expressed his commitment to gradually introducing measures to ease the burden on working mothers.

Jamaat Chief clarified his proposal for reducing working hours to five hours for mothers, a suggestion that has sparked some controversy. He explained that the initiative aims to provide relief for mothers who are often forced to quit their jobs to care for their children.

"This measure is specifically for those mothers who leave their jobs because they cannot manage work and childcare. It is about providing them with the support they need to maintain both roles," he said.

Reflecting on the profound importance of mothers, Dr. Rahman expressed gratitude for their sacrifices, saying, "We owe everything to our mothers, who carry us for nine months in their wombs. No amount of effort can repay their debt. A mother's role in raising a child is irreplaceable, and it is our responsibility to honor and support them."

He urged men to respect their wives and mothers, ensuring their dignity and empowering them both at home and in society.

Dr Rahman also drew attention to historical examples of women's contributions, citing the courage of female companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) during significant battles.

He referenced Hazrat Nusaybah and Hindah, who played pivotal roles in protecting and supporting the Muslim community during times of adversity. "The legacy of these women is beyond comparison, and we must ensure that their descendants continue to be respected and empowered," he added.

In addition to his support for working mothers, Dr. Rahman addressed the need for better public facilities for women, particularly in terms of washrooms, which are still inadequate in many public spaces.

He promised that under Jamaat-e-Islami's leadership, these basic needs would be prioritized. "We will ensure that women have access to the proper facilities, including sufficient washrooms in public places," he assured the crowd.

The Jamaat Ameer also touched on the importance of empowering the youth, particularly young women. He pledged to provide quality education and vocational training to help young women become self-reliant and achieve their career goals.

He firmly rejected the concept of unemployment benefits, calling it an insult to the dignity of the youth. "We will offer proper education and skill development, ensuring that every young woman has the opportunity to excel," he said.

Dr. Rahman urged the people of Bangladesh to support Jamaat-e-Islami in the upcoming elections. "The victory on the 12th will not just be for Jamaat-e-Islami, but for the people of Bangladesh, who will secure a future of respect, dignity, and progress," he said.

Addressing recent attacks on female party members, Dr. Rahman condemned the violence and called on those responsible to repent and seek forgiveness. "Anyone who harms our mothers will face the consequences. We will always stand firm in protecting the dignity of our women," he added.
