'Voting Rickshaw' campaign launched in Sylhet ahead of election, referendum

SYLHET, Jan 20, 2026 (BSS) - The 'Voting Rickshaw' campaign was inaugurated in Sylhet today as part of nationwide efforts to raise awareness ahead of the 13th national election and referendum scheduled for February 12.

The campaign, launched under the initiative of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in collaboration with the Department of Mass Communication, will run across 106 unions in 13 upazilas of Sylhet district until February 9. 

The inauguration took place at the Sylhet Sadar Upazila Parishad premises, where Director General of the Department of Mass Communication Md. Abdul Jalil joined virtually. 

Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khoshnur Rubaiyat attended as the special guest, and the ceremony was presided over by Assistant Director of the District Information Office Rakibul Hasan.

Addressing the inauguration as chief guest, Director General (DG) of the Department of Mass Communication, Md. Abdul Jalil highlighted the campaign's objective: to inform and motivate voters about the upcoming referendum. 

He emphasized that the public should receive clear information on the benefits of voting 'yes' and the consequences of voting 'no', alongside guidance on voter conduct during the parliamentary election.

The campaign will use vote rickshaws to disseminate information in villages, markets, schools, colleges, and neighborhoods. The initiative also aims to educate citizens about the code of conduct for political parties and other election-related guidelines.

Sadar Upazila Election Officer Mohammad Farhad Hossain, officials from various upazila departments, and media representatives were present at the event.
