DHAKA, Sept 11, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today ordered Sajeeb Kazi, 31, an Assistant Technical Helper of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, to be sent to jail after completion of his remand in a case filed under the Special Powers Act over the seizure of 14 kilograms of gold at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) here.

Police produced Sajeeb before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court today after completion of his five-day remand.

The investigating officer of the case then sought an order to keep him in jail until the investigation is completed. Following a hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sara Farzana ordered that he be sent to jail.

Earlier, on September 6, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin had granted police a five-day remand for Sajeeb.

According to the case statement, on September 5, a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines arriving in Dhaka from Dubai via Chattogram was searched based on a tip-off.

After noticing the presence of security personnel, Sajeeb, who was moving suspiciously inside the aircraft cabin, allegedly ran and threw gold bars that he had concealed on his body into the cabin. A packet discarded inside the cabin was subsequently recovered.

Upon opening the packet, officials found 120 gold bars wrapped in cloth. Examination revealed that the 120 bars contained a total of 13,992 grams, or approximately 14 kilograms, of 24-carat gold, with an estimated market value of Tk k 25.20 crore.

A case was filed with the Airport Police Station under the Special Powers Act in connection with the incident.
