Court orders seizure of assets of Nazrul Islam, family in Hong Kong

DHAKA, Sept 9, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today ordered the seizure of assets of Nazrul Islam Mazumder, chairman of Nassa Group and former chairman of EXIM Bank and his son Walid Ibne Islam and daughter Anika Islam in Hong Kong and freezing their bank accounts.

Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir passed the order following an application submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Md Rauful Islam, Deputy Director and team leader of the ACC’s Joint Investigation Team (JIT), filed the application to the court.

According to the application, the ACC’s investigation has found that Nazrul Islam Mazumder, members of his family and their associates allegedly embezzled around Taka 35000 crore after obtaining funds fraudulently from 26 banks in Bangladesh and subsequently siphoned the money to the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Hong Kong.

Two cases have been filed over allegations of money laundering, abuse of power and breach of trust, while two more cases have been filed against Nazrul Islam Mazumder and his wife over allegations of acquiring illegal assets.

A charge sheet has already been submitted in one of the money-laundering cases, which is currently under trial.

The ACC’s investigation identified Nazrul Islam Mazumder, Walid Ibne Islam and Anika Islam as the beneficial owners of Hong Kong-based China Supreme Limited. The company maintains an active bank account with The Bank of East Asia Limited.

The ACC has also alleged that money was transferred abroad without the permission from Bangladesh Bank and that information about assets acquired abroad was concealed in their income tax returns.

The commission said assets were purchased in Hong Kong with illegally acquired funds and that there was a risk that the assets could be transferred or disposed of.

Against this backdrop, the ACC sought orders to seize, freeze or block the bank account of China Supreme Limited, as well as the movable and immovable assets held in the company’s name. The court subsequently granted the application and issued the order accordingly.
