CHATTOGRAM, July 6, 2026 (BSS)- A court here has imposed different terms of imprisonment on three individuals in a case related to the seizure of 20,000 Yaba tablets at the Kotwali Police Station in the city.

The verdict was delivered by the Eighth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Farida Yasmin today.

According to the court's bench assistant, Saifur Rahman, the charges were substantiated by the testimonies of five witnesses.

Accordingly, the defendants-- Md. Abdur Rahim Swapan and Md. Sohel-- received sentences of 10 years of rigorous imprisonment, along with fines of Taka 20,000 each and an additional six months imprisonment in default to pay the fines.

In the same case, Md. Jasim was sentenced to 10 years in prison with a fine of Taka 10,000 and three months imprisonment in default to pay, and three years in prison with another fine of Taka 10,000 and an additional four months of imprisonment for another charge.

Since all three defendants were absconding at the time of the verdict, the court issued arrest warrants against them based on the original sentencing order.

As per the case details, on the night of October 24, 2018, a team from the Chattogram Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) police, acting on a confidential tip-off, conducted a search of a mini truck in the Firingibazar Bridgeghat area of Kotwali Police Station and seized 20,000 contraband Yaba tablets.

Abdur Rahim Swapan and Sohel were arrested from the spot during the raid.

During their interrogation, they revealed that the absconding accused had instructed them to transport the Yaba consignment from Teknaf to Feni for sale.

Following the police investigation, a charge-sheet was submitted to the court against the three individuals, and the trial commenced.
