Three to die for killing vegetable vendor in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, July 28, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced three men to death for killing vegetable vendor Faisal Sheikh in Sadar upazila in 2012.

Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge First Court Mohammad Badiuzzaman delivered the verdict this afternoon.

The convicts are Chan Sardar, 42, and Tara Sardar, 35, sons of Ayub Ali Sardar of Paschim Khabaspur area in the district town and Babul Akand, 36, son of Ziaul Haque Akand.

Babul Akand was present in court when the judgment was pronounced and was taken into custody and sent to jail under police escort. The court also issued arrest warrants against the two absconding convicts Chan Sardar and Tara Sardar.

According to the prosecution, on September 5, 2012, Faisal Sheikh, 22, was brutally assaulted with sharp weapons and beaten near an under-construction building at Faridpur Medical College Hospital. He was rescued in critical condition but died on the way to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. Faisal was the son of the late Aku Sheikh of the Middle Alipur area in the town.

Following the day, victim's mother, Firoza Begum, filed a murder case with Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, naming Chan Sardar, Tara Sardar and two others as accused.

The investigation was conducted by CID Inspector Mohammad Shahjahan Mia, who submitted the charge-sheet to the court on July 31, 2013, accusing Chan Sardar, Tara Sardar, Babul Akand and Shahin Sardar.

During the course of the trial, accused Shahin Sardar died and was subsequently dropped from the proceedings.

Confirming the verdict, Public Prosecutor Chowdhury Jahid Hasan said the prosecution successfully proved the murder beyond reasonable doubt through extensive hearings and witness testimonies.
