Driver, caretaker of Tarique Siddique on 4-day remand in murder case

DHAKA, April 24, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today again placed the driver and caretaker of Major General (Retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, former defence adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, on four-day remand in a murder case.

The accused are driver Md Mahidul Islam, 42, and caretaker Md Chan Mia, 46.

They were produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka today after completing an earlier four-day remand.

The investigation officer sought a fresh seven-day remand for further investigation.

After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Al Biruni Mir granted four days of remand for each of them.

The case was filed over the killing of businessman Abdul Wadud, who was shot dead during the July 2024 movement in the Nilkhet area under New Market Police Station.

According to the case documents, the incident took place on the afternoon of July 19, 2024, during the anti-discrimination student movement.

The case was filed by the victim's brother-in-law Abdur Rob at New Market Police Station, accusing 130 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader.

Police arrested Mahidul Islam from Thakurgaon and Chan Mia from the capital's Bhashantek area on April 19.

Earlier, on April 20, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Didarul Alam had also granted them a four-day remand in the same case.
