RANGPUR, Sept 9, 2026 (BSS) - A Safe Delivery Center (SDC) has been inaugurated at remote Jahajer Alga char village in Saheb-er-Alga union under Ulipur upazila of Kurigram to ensure safe healthcare services for pregnant mothers and newborns.
 
The center was established on Tuesday afternoon under the "Stop Suffering - Female Genital Fistula" (SSFGF) project, implemented by the World Mission Prayer League (LAMB Hospital), a LAMB press release said tonight.
 
Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Wazed Ali attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest with Ulipur Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Md Nurul Huda in the chair.
 
Chairman of the local Saheb-er-Alga Union Parishad Md Mozaffar Hossain was present as a special guest.
 
Local union parishad members, officials and staff from the health department, local public representatives, dignitaries, and local residents attended the ceremony.
 
Director of the Community Health and Development Programme (CHDP) of LAMB Utpal Minz and Deputy Director and the SSFGF Project Manager Nomrota Hawee also addressed the occasion.
 
Addressing the event, the chief guest said, "Alongside the local community clinic, this Safe Delivery Center will play a vital role in ensuring healthcare for the people of the char areas.
 
"You (local people) must remain keen to avail yourselves of these services; otherwise, LAMB will lose the motivation to keep this service center operational," he said.
 
Utpal Minz said, "LAMB built this safe delivery center to make services easily accessible to local pregnant mothers and newborns. However, it is now your asset and the liability of keeping it operational, effective, and well-maintained lies with you."
 
Guardian of the first mother to receive delivery services at the center Md Jamal Kuddus said, "We are very pleased with the care received at this hospital; the delivery took place quickly. I urge all expectant mothers to come here for their deliveries."
 
Teacher Md Munshur Ali stated, "Pregnant women in these remote, river-surrounded areas usually have to travel long distances for delivery services. This often puts both the mother and the newborn at risk during emergencies.'
 
With the opening of this center, local women will now have the opportunity to access safe and essential delivery services right within their own community.
 
"Such initiatives play a vital role in bringing maternal healthcare to remote regions. Ensuring prompt medical care during childbirth can reduce delivery-related complications and minimize risks to both mothers and newborns," he said.
