GAIBANDHA, Aug 26, 2026 (BSS) - A 14-year-old boy drowned while taking a bath in the Karatoya river at Kholshi area of Gobindaganj upazila this afternoon.

The deceased, Asif Mia, was the son of Md. Phul Mia of Bokchar Madhyapara village under Kamardaha Union of Gobindaganj upazila.

According to police sources, Asif went to bathe in the Karatoya river with several friends after playing football. 

At one point, he went missing after being swept under the water. Local people searched for him for nearly an hour but failed to locate him and subsequently informed the fire service.

Later, a fire service diving team arrived at the scene and recovered Asif's body from the river after nearly two hours of searching.

Gobindaganj Fire Station Officer Md Masud Rana said the body, recovered from the river, was handed over to the family after completing the legal procedures.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gobindaganj Police Station, Muhammad Mozammel Haque, confirmed the incident.
