450,000 yaba tablets, 3kg crystal meth seized, Myanmar national held in Teknaf

COX'S BAZAR, Aug 24, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in separate drives along the Teknaf border seized 450,000 yaba tablets and three kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, locally known as ice, and detained a Myanmar national.

In the first drive, a special patrol team of Hnila Border Outpost under Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB), acting on intelligence, took position in the Moulvibazar area around 1:00 am today, said a BGB release this noon.

At about 1:15 am, the team spotted three suspected smugglers entering Bangladesh from Myanmar carrying sacks.

Challenged by BGB members, they dropped the sacks and fled. BGB personnel fired blank shots, but the suspects escaped, it mentioned.

A subsequent search recovered 400,000 yaba tablets from three sacks. The smugglers could not be detained.

In another drive, Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) recovered 50,000 yaba tablets from a fish basket abandoned near a keora grove along the Naf River after three suspected smugglers fled towards Myanmar.

In a separate operation in the Sabrang area, the battalion detained a Myanmar national, Md Shah Alam, 50, and seized three kilograms of crystal methamphetamine from a wooden boat.

Three suspected smugglers jumped into the river and escaped towards Myanmar when challenged by a BGB naval patrol. A search of the boat recovered the crystal meth from a concealed compartment.

Legal proceedings are underway, the BGB added.
