RAJSHAHI, Aug 17, 2026 (BSS) – Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton today assured that necessary initiatives would be taken to combat heatwaves in Rajshahi and ensure the safety of city residents.
He called upon private development organizations and NGOs to carry out their activities in coordination with the RCC to make Rajshahi city more livable and people-friendly.
He made the remarks while inaugurating a workshop titled ‘Lesson Learned Workshop from Testing the Draft National Early Action Protocol’ here today as the chief guest.
The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), Rajshahi City Unit organized the workshop at Hotel X auditorium in the city to share lessons and experiences gained from testing the draft National Early Action Protocol (EAP) formulated at the national level.
The RCC administrator assured his full cooperation in all humanitarian and public welfare activities of the Red Crescent Rajshahi City Unit.
He praised the role of Red Crescent volunteers in various disasters and humanitarian crises, including heatwaves.
At the event, Vice Chairman of the Red Crescent Rajshahi City Unit Rezaul Karim Raju expressed sincere gratitude to the RCC administrator for his various humanitarian initiatives and wished him success in his future endeavours.
Various development activities of the RCC were also highlighted at the meeting.
Red Crescent Rajshahi City Unit Secretary Dr Shamim Hossain Chowdhury drew the attention of the RCC administrator to the need to take initiatives to set up permanent cooling centres in Rajshahi city.
At the same time, emphasis was placed on setting up cooling centres and passenger shelters at important locations to provide relief and protection to city dwellers during severe heatwaves.
