KHULNA, Aug 17, 2026 (BSS) - Another dengue patient died at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) in the last 24 hours, raising the dengue death toll in Khulna division to 13 this year.
The deceased was identified as Liaquat, 53, a resident of Gagan Babu Road in the city.
According to a report issued today by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Khulna Divisional Director Md Mosharraf Hossain, 153 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the division in the past 24 hours until 8am today.
Of the newly admitted patients, 120 were admitted to government hospitals and 33 to private hospitals.
With the latest admissions, the number of dengue patients undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the division has reached 448.
Of the new patients, 31 were admitted to government hospitals in Khulna, 33 to private hospitals in the district, 36 to KMCH, 15 in Bagerhat, one in Satkhira, 20 in Jashore, four in Narail, eight in Kushtia, four in Chuadanga and one in Meherpur.
No new patients were admitted to Satkhira Medical College Hospital, Jhenaidah or Magura during the period.
Health authorities said 3,555 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals in the division from January 1 to August 15 this year. Of them, 3,056 have recovered and been discharged, while 38 were referred to other hospitals.
The current hospitalized patients include 172 in Khulna, 127 at KMCH, 68 in Bagerhat, five in Satkhira, two at Satkhira Medical College Hospital, 35 in Jashore, five in Jhenaidah, seven in Magura, eight in Narail, 13 in Kushtia, four in Chuadanga and two in Meherpur.
Of the 13 dengue deaths recorded in the division this year, 10 occurred at KMCH, two in Khulna district and one in Bagerhat. Four of those who died at KMCH were from Khulna.
Talking to BSS, KMCH Superintendent Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman said Liaquat was admitted to the hospital on August 16 with dengue, kidney complications and other health problems.
