KHULNA, Aug 17, 2026 (BSS) - Fifty youth members of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (RCS), Khulna City Unit, will be deployed at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) to provide voluntary services to dengue patients.
Police personnel will also be deployed at the hospital to prevent unnecessary visitors from entering the premises.
The decisions were taken at a tripartite meeting held at the GIZ auditorium of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) yesterday afternoon to contain the dengue outbreak in the city and ensure better treatment facilities for patients.
KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju chaired the meeting attended by officials of KCC, KMCH and Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP).
The meeting also decided to inform the Health Ministry about the need for adequate saline, medicines and dengue testing kits.
It also decided to ensure regular cleaning of the hospital premises, conduct regular larvicide spraying and fogging to control mosquitoes, and remove medical waste promptly.
The KCC administrator convened the emergency meeting after inspecting KMCH in the morning to address existing problems in providing treatment to dengue patients.
KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Chief Health Officer Dr Sharif Shammimul Islam, KMP Assistant Commissioner (Sadar) Shafiqul Islam, KMCH Assistant Director Dr Kazi Ahsan Habib, RMO Dr Arif Mohammad and other senior officials attended the meeting.
Earlier in the morning, Administrator Manju inspected the ongoing crash programme for mosquito control at Sheikhpara Bazar and adjoining areas in Ward No. 20 and Nixon Market and adjoining areas in Ward No. 21 of the city.
