PATUAKHALI, Aug 6, 2026 (BSS) - Financial assistance cheques worth a total of Taka 5,70,000 were distributed among 57 homeless, disabled, underprivileged and meritorious students in Kalapara upazila of the district today.

The cheque distribution ceremony was held at the Upazila Parishad auditorium and was jointly organized by the Upazila Administration and the Upazila Social Services Office with funding from the National Social Welfare Council.

Local Member of Parliament Alhaj ABM Mosharraf Hossain attended the event as the chief guest and handed over the cheques to the beneficiaries. The programme was chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Arifuzzaman.

The event was conducted by Upazila Social Services Officer Md. Zahirul Islam. Among others present were Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Arafat Hossain, Upazila Engineer Md. Moniruzzaman, Kalapara Upazila BNP President Haji Humayun Sikder and other local dignitaries.

According to the Upazila Social Services Office, each of the 57 selected underprivileged and disabled students received Taka 10,000.

Speakers at the event said such financial assistance would help disadvantaged students continue their education and contribute to improving their socio-economic conditions.
