RAJSHAHI, Aug 25, 2026 (BSS)- Speakers at a students’ gathering here today unanimously said that human existence will be threatened if the balance of trees and nature is not preserved.

They also emphasized planting more trees as well as taking proper care of them to maintain ecological balance.

These remarks were made by the speakers at the inaugural ceremony of a tree plantation program titled 'One Child, One Tree' at Nowhata High Girls' School in Paba Upazila of the district this afternoon.

The Rajshahi Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board organized the program with the slogan 'We will work, we will build the country, Bangladesh first'.

Advocate Mohammad Shafiqul Haque Milon, MP, addressed the event as chief guest, while Professor Dr. Shamim Ara Chowdhury, Chairman of the Rajshahi Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, was in the chair.

Special guests were the Secretary of the Education Board Professor Abdur Rauf and Paba Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ibnul Abedin. 

Highlighting the importance of tree plantation, Shafiqul Haque Milon, MP,  said, 'If the balance of trees and nature is not maintained, our existence will be under threat.'

Mentioning the need to plant five crore trees every year in the country to protect the environment, he said that responsibility does not end just by planting trees.
 
Trees must be nurtured and grown like children.

He further said that not only mahogany, but considering the needs of the environment, medicinal, fruit-bearing and ornamental flowering trees should also be planted.

A green environment must be created by planting various species of trees in a planned way in empty spaces including schools and home yards.
 
Regarding the establishment of good governance in the country, MP Milon said, 'We will not look back at what happened in the past. Remembering the past, we will move forward.'
 
He emphasized establishing the rule of law in the country, keeping the judiciary independent, and preventing black laws of the past and enacting pro-people and modern laws.

Urging students to engage in sports and cultural activities along with studies, he said that for the mental development of students, along with studies, practice of sports, music and environment-friendly activities is necessary.

Referring to government directives, he said that sports have been made compulsory for students from class four.

Calling for building the future generation as good human beings, MP Milon said, whatever the profession - be it judge, barrister, doctor, engineer or farmer - above all, one must become a good human being.

It is possible to build a beautiful and humane society by following religious principles and discipline.

Later, he and the Chairman of the Education Board planted saplings on the school premises. At that time, local public representatives, educationists, teachers, students and dignitaries were present. After the inauguration of the program, MP Milon distributed saplings of various species among the students of the school.
