NETROKONA, Aug 3, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested the alleged mastermind and one of the main accused in the high-profile Kakon murder case in Purbadhala upazila of Netrokona district.

The suspect, Abdur Rashid, 33, was arrested from the Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital, Dhaka, following a two-day operation.

Purbadhala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the arrest to BSS late Sunday night. He said the accused had already been produced before the court with a prayer for a seven-day police remand.

According to the OC, the arrest was made around 7:00 pm on August 1 from Road No-22 in Block K of the Bashundhara Residential Area under the overall supervision of Netrokona Superintendent of Police Md. Tarikul Islam.

The operation was led by Purbadhala Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Mohammad Habibur Rahman. The team also included Second Officer Md. Rafiqul Islam, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Anwar Hossain, Constable Nahid Hasan Khan and Unarmed ASI Md. Abul Hossain.

Abdur Rashid is the son of Hasen Ali of Dapunia Sehra Duari village in Purbadhala upazila.
According to the case statement, Kakon Mia was returning home from Dapunia Bazar around 12:30 am on August 6, 2025. When he reached a road near the northern corner of Khelon Mia's house in Dapunia, he was allegedly ambushed due to previous enmity by Abdur Rashid, his brother Abdur Rahim, and several relatives. The attackers reportedly used sharp weapons, including Chinese axes, machetes and cleavers, inflicting fatal injuries.

Following the incident, the victim's brother-in-law, Masud Al Mamun, filed a murder case with Purbadhala Police Station, naming 10 accused, including Abdur Rashid, along with four or five unidentified individuals.

Police said all other named accused had already been arrested, while Abdur Rashid had remained in hiding since the murder. To evade arrest, he allegedly moved between Sylhet, Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Cumilla, and Dhaka, frequently changing his mobile SIM cards and handsets to avoid detection.
