RAJSHAHI, July 28, 2026 (BSS) - A boat capsized in the Padma River in the Bishpur Ferry Ghat (Padma Garden) area adjacent to Barakuthi in Rajshahi city this noon.
According to local sources, there were a total of 8 passengers on a boat coming from Shyampur Jianagar.
At the time of the accident, 6 people were rescued alive due to the immediate efforts of the City Corporation-approved lessee's boat stationed at Bishpur Ferry Ghat and local people.
However, the boatman Kawsar Ali, 60, and his son Ziarul Islam, 32, remain missing. Their home is in the Jianagar area of Shyampur, Paba.
Upon receiving news of the boat capsize, the Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, instructed officials of RCC to visit the spot.
In response, a delegation from RCC quickly rushed to visit the scene. At that time, they inquired about the overall rescue operation.
With the cooperation of the City Corporation, the rescue operation by Fire Service and Civil Defense personnel is continuing.
At that time, they assured all necessary cooperation in coordination with Rajshahi City Corporation, the administration, and the rescue agencies.
During the inspection, RCC Secretary Sohel Rana, Divisional Deputy Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Monjil Haque, Assistant Public Relations Officer Md. Rakibul Haque Tuhin, and Information Assistant Fazle Rabbi were present.
Meanwhile, members of the local administration, Fire Service and concerned rescue agencies are conducting operations to rescue the two missing persons.
