KISHOREGANJ, July 25, 2026 (BSS) - An eight-year-old girl drowned in a river while taking bath in Itna upazila of the district.

The deceased was identified as Faiza, daughter of Md. Naim of Panchkahaniya village under Baribari union of the upazila.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon when Faiza went to the river with her brother for a bath. As she did not know how to swim, she reportedly sank beneath the water.

After being informed, a diving team from the Fire Service and local residents conducted a search operation for approximately six to seven hours but were unable to locate her.

Around 8.00 am today, Faiza's body was found floating in the river near the site of the incident. Local residents recovered the body.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Habibullah Khan of Itna Police Station confirmed the drowning incident. He said the body has been handed over to the victim's family.
