RANGPUR, July 7, 2026 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) in a special anti-gambling operation arrested four persons from a gambling party in the kitchen in the Paschim Gilabari area under Hazirhat police station in the early hours of today.
 
Four people were caught red-handed while gambling during the operation conducted there at 2:30 am, a press release said this evening. 
 
The arrestees are Abu Bakkar Siddique, 27, and Md Abu Musa, 30, of the Paschim Gilabari area, Md Nazmul Islam, 36, of the Dakshin Binnatari area and Shri Shyamal Chandra Roy, 31, of the Rajendrapur area under Hazirhat police station. 
 
A case has been registered at Hazirhat police station under the 'Gambling Prevention Act, 2026' and necessary legal action has been taken. 
 
In this regard, RpMP Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud said, "Since the enactment of the Gambling Prevention Act, 2026, RpMP has been working with utmost importance to strictly implement the new law."
 
He has urged the city residents to refrain from gambling and other crimes and sought everyone's cooperation in building a crime-free, safe and peaceful Rangpur by reporting any information related to crime to the police.
