GAZIPUR, July 05, 2026 (BSS) - Two adolescents drowned while bathing in the Turag River in Tongi of the district today.

The deceased were Shamim Mia, 11, son of Anisur Rahman of Purbo Arispur Boubazar area in Tongi and Afnan, 13, son of Saiful Islam of the same area.

Tongi Naval-Police Outpost in-charge Inspector Md Firoz confirmed and said three friends—Shamim, Afnan and Shakib-- went to bath in the river. At one stage, Shamim and Afnan drowned in deep water. Another friend Shakib called locals.

The locals called Fire Service. A team of Fire Service rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of the duo at about 12.30pm.
