KHULNA, July 2, 2026 (BSS) – Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju today said the city corporation has been working for the welfare of its residents and that identifying citizens' problems and needs since assuming office has helped determine future development priorities.

He made the remarks while addressing a programme as the chief guest at Shaheed Altaf Auditorium of Nagar Bhaban here.

At the programme, Nagorik Forum, a voluntary organization, submitted its proposed development plan for inclusion in the KCC's budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

Nagorik Forum Secretary General S.M. Iqbal Hasan Tuhin presented the proposed development plan at the programme.

Mentioning that the KCC budget would be announced shortly, the administrator said the proposals placed by the forum were constructive, practical and implementable, adding that most of them were already included in the corporation's own development plans.

He said successful implementation of projects such as completing the drainage improvement programme, installing pumps to remove rainwater during high tides, launching a waste recycling centre, preventing the entry of battery-run easy bikes from outside the city, freeing footpaths from illegal occupation and strengthening mosquito control measures would significantly reduce civic problems.

Calling for public cooperation, Manju urged city residents to dispose of waste at designated places to ensure the success of waste management initiatives.

At the programme, the forum also proposed constructing sanitary latrines on both sides of People's Mill in Ward No. 8, renovating drains from Power House Gate to People's Gate and from People's Gate to Crescent Gate, and ensuring a supply of safe drinking water at the public toilet near Power House Gate.

Nagorik Forum Chairperson Rafiqul Islam Khokon chaired the programme.

KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Secretary Md Reza Rashid and Budget-cum-Accounts Officer Md Moniruzzaman attended the programme as special guests. Nagorik Forum Co-chairperson Sardar Abu Taher delivered the concluding speech.

Earlier, the KCC administrator inaugurated a tree plantation programme organised by MB TV Bangla at City Law College. He later planted a sapling on the college premises.
