CHATTOGRAM, June 30, 2026 (BSS) – A stone-laden lighter vessel sank after colliding with another lighter vessel in the port channel this morning.

Eight people were rescued immediately after the incident, while four others were later rescued by the Coast Guard.

Port authorities said the accident would not affect the movement of vessels to and from the port.

Nasir Uddin, spokesperson for Chattogram Port and chief personnel officer, said MV Bay Harbor-2 partially sank near the training wall opposite the Naval Academy at around 5:30am.
