Two jailed for 10 years for murder in Khulna

KHULNA, June 30, 2026 (BSS) - A court in Khulna today sentenced two men to 10
years' rigorous imprisonment for the murder of Ibrahim Morol in Paikgachha
upazila of the district.

The court also fined each convict Taka 20,000, with an additional one year's
simple imprisonment in default of payment.

Khulna District and Sessions Judge Chand Mohammad Abdul Alim Al Razi
pronounced the verdict, court bench assistant Mansur Ahmed confirmed.

The convicts are Md. Akbar Fakir, son of Babul Fakir of Khatumari village,
and Obaidullah Joardar, son of Wahab Joardar of Bandikati village under
Paikgachha upazila.

Obaidullah was absent during the pronouncement of the verdict and remains
absconding.

According to the prosecution, on the evening of November 3, 2021, Obaidullah
contacted Ibrahim Morol over the phone and asked him to meet at Gadaipur
Bazar.

The two, along with Akbar, bought biscuits, chanachur, puffed rice and a soft
drink before travelling by van to a bamboo grove in Solua village under
Paikgachha Police Station, where they sat down to eat.

An altercation reportedly broke out among them over the proceeds from the
sale of a stolen van, which escalated into a physical scuffle.

During the incident, Obaidullah allegedly threw Ibrahim to the ground and sat
on his back while he and Akbar strangled him with a towel, killing him on the
spot.

Later, they dumped the body in a nearby ditch and shared Taka 5,000 between
themselves, according to the prosecution.

As the victim's identity could not initially be established, Sub-Inspector
(SI) Md. Asaduzzaman of Paikgachha Police Station filed the case on November
6, 2021.

Following an investigation, SI Md Alim submitted the charge-sheet against the
two accused on January 28, 2022.
