RANGPUR, June 30, 2026 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested two persons with a 115-kg Vishnu idol made of touchstone worth Taka 3.45 crore from village Kismat Bhoisha in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon district on Monday.
The recovered idol's head is 32 inches long and 22 inches wide, and its lower part is 16 inches long and 22 inches wide.
On a tip off, a smart team from the RAB-13's Nilphamari Camp conducted a raid in the village, recovered the Vishnu idol from a house and arrested the two men from the spot at 4:30 pm, a press release said today.
The detainees are Md Hasan Ahmed, 26, of Kismat Bhoisha village and Md Nazmul, 64, of nearby Nandgaon (Munshipara) village in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon district.
After filing a case under Section 25(b) of the Special Powers Act of 1974, the elite force handed over the arrested persons along with the seized touchstone statue to Haripur police station of Thakurgaon, the release added.
