National Vitamin 'A' Plus campaign launched in Khulna

KHULNA, June 28, 2026 (BSS) - The National Vitamin A Plus Campaign was inaugurated in Khulna today. 

Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju inaugurated the campaign at the auditorium of Khalishpur Collegiate Girls' School as the chief guest. 

Speaking on the occasion, he said vitamin A plays a vital role in strengthening children's immunity and protecting their eyesight.

He also underscored the importance of ensuring timely vaccination to safeguard children from various preventable diseases.

"The government is implementing regular and emergency immunization programmes across the country to protect every child. Today's children are the future of the nation. Building a strong nation requires ensuring children's health and safety from the very beginning of life," he said.

KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed chaired the function.

Among others, Civil Surgeon Dr Mahfuza Khatun, KCC Secretary Md Reza Rashid, Deputy Director of the Department of Family Planning Md Akib Uddin, Assistant Director of the Health Department Dr Aparna Biswas, Principal of Khalishpur Collegiate Girls' School Md Shahidul Islam, Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Chief Revenue Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, Chief Health Officer Dr Sharif Shammiul Islam and Divisional Coordinator of the World Health Organization Dr Md Arif attended the programme.

Under the campaign, a total of 108,952 children in the Khulna metropolitan area are targeted to receive vitamin A capsules.

Of them, 12,337 children aged between six and 11 months will receive blue vitamin A capsules, while 96,615 children aged between 12 and 59 months will be administered red vitamin A capsules.

To implement the campaign, KCC has deployed 1,420 volunteers across its 31 wards.

A total of 710 centres, including 580 ward-based centres, 80 mobile centres and 50 NGO-operated centres, have been set up, while 62 supervisors will oversee the programme.
