He said prolonged mismanagement during the previous fascist government had caused immense suffering to city dwellers.

"We want to overcome that situation and build a dust-free, clean and green city based on opinions from all sections of society. Since assuming office, we have been working towards that goal," he said.

The KCC administrator was addressing the inauguration and oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected committee of the Khulna District Bakery Hawkers' Union as the chief guest at Nazrul Nagar School ground in Sheikhpara this morning.

Congratulating the newly elected leaders of the union, Manju urged bakery owners and workers not to dispose of factory waste indiscriminately.

Instead, he asked them to preserve the waste in designated containers and cooperate with the KCC in maintaining a clean city.

He also called upon the union members to plant trees in their home premises and other suitable places to help increase the city's green coverage.

Presided over by union president H M Shahidul Islam, the function was addressed, among others, by former general secretary of Sonadanga Thana BNP and union adviser S M Asaduzzaman Murad, former union presidents Md Alamgir Hossain and M M Ayub Ali. Union general secretary H M Iqbal conducted the programme.

At the ceremony, the KCC administrator conducted the oath to the newly elected executive committee members.

He also expressed solidarity with various demands raised by the union members and assured them of the KCC's continued support in matters concerning the welfare and interests of the organisation.

Earlier, Manju visited the under-construction Darul Makama Jame Mosque at Golokdham intersection in Maheshwarpasha under Daulatpur area and inspected the local drainage, water discharge and waste management systems.
