KHULNA, June 25, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Md Nazrul Islam Manju today said the history of Holy Ashura stands as a unique example of upholding truth, justice and ideals. 

He said members of the Shia community observe the day commemorating its tragic historical significance and stressed the importance of observing the solemn occasion in a peaceful environment.

The KCC administrator made the remarks while addressing a grant distribution ceremony for different imambaras in the city as the chief guest at the GIZ Auditorium of Nagar Bhaban this afternoon. 

As part of its annual observance of Holy Ashura, KCC provides grants to imambaras every year.

Wishing success to all programmes arranged to observe the day, Manju urged citizens to cooperate with the city corporation in its efforts to keep the city clean and carry out tree plantation programmes. 

He also said the city corporation would continue to stand by the community in the future. 

At the function, the administrator handed over grant cheques to representatives of 35 imambaras.

KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed chaired the programme.

Among others, KCC Secretary Md Reza Rashid, Chief Revenue Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, Administrative Officer Dr Peru Gopal Biswas, former KCC councillors Md Mahbub Kaiser and H M Abu Saleh were present.
