Accused in Rangpur old man's throat-slitting case held in Comilla 

RANGPUR, June 25, 2026 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested the main accused in the sensational old man's throat-slitting case of Rangpur from village Dakshin Chartha under Kotwali police station of Cumilla district on Wednesday night.

The detainee is Md Russell Mia, 28, son of Abed Ali, of Haridebpur Dolapara village under Sadar Kotwali police station of Rangpur district, a press release said today.

Citing from the statement of the case filed by the victim's son, Abdus Salam, the release said that the arrested accused and other accused had been threatening to harm their family for a long time due to previous enmity. 

On April 26, 2026, at night, the plaintiff's father, victim Md Abu Bakkar, 65, of the same village, went to sleep at their under-construction house. 

When the victim did not return by 9 the next morning, the plaintiff went to the house and found the main door locked from inside and the window of the room open. 

He entered the house and found his father lying on the floor with his throat slit and bloodied. 

The victim was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.

While undergoing treatment, the victim stated that the arrested accused, along with his accomplices, entered the house through the window and stabbed him in the neck with a sharp weapon to kill him. 

In this incident, the victim's son filed an attempted murder case with Rangpur Sadar Kotwali police station on May 1, 2026.

When the victim died while undergoing treatment at 3.10 pm on May 20, 2026, the case was converted into a murder case and created a sensation in the area. 

On a tip-off, a joint team of RAB-13 from Rangpur and RAB-11 from Comilla Camp in a raid arrested the main accused Md Russell Mia from village Dakshin Chartha of Cumilla district at 7.30 pm on Wednesday.

The arrested accused has been handed over to the concerned police station for further legal action.
