JAMALPUR, June 24, 2026 (BSS) - The Health Department will hold the national vitamin A plus campaign in the district on June 28, aiming to feed vitamin A capsules to 352,127 children.

The information was disclosed at a press conference held in the conference room of the Civil Surgeon's Office.

Speaking at the event, Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammad Azizul Haque said the campaign aims to strengthen children's immunity and protect them from various health complications.

He emphasized that Vitamin A is essential for human health, and its deficiency can hinder physical growth and lead to problems such as night blindness, measles, diarrhea, and malnutrition.

According to Dr. Azizul Haque, a total of 311,655 children aged between 6 and 11 months will receive a blue-colored Vitamin A capsule containing 100,000 International Units (IU), while 40,472 children aged 12 to 59 months will be given a red-colored capsule containing 200,000 IU.

The programme will be conducted from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at 1,692 centers across the district's seven upazilas.

He further stated that children who have received a Vitamin A capsule within the last four months and those who are currently ill will not be eligible for the campaign.

Following the programme, health workers will conduct house-to-house visits to identify children who missed the supplementation, ensuring that no eligible child is deprived of the service.

Among others present at the press conference were Deputy Civil Surgeon Shah Md. Zillur Rahman, Medical Officers Dr. Mubashshira Haque, Dr. Abeda Etu, and Junior Health Education Officer Md. Anisur Rahman.
