RANGAMATI, June 23, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested 21 individuals,
including leaders and activists of Awami League (AL) and its associated and
affiliated organisations and suspected drug dealers during special operations
conducted across Rangamati town and its several upazilas.
Of the total arrests, 16 were made in different areas of Rangamati town,
while the remaining five were detained in other upazilas of the district.
According to police, the arrested individuals include 16 from Rangamati
Kotwali Police Station, two from Kaukhali Police Station, one from Longadu
Police Station, one from Baghaichhari Police Station and one from Kaptai
Police Station.
The operation was carried out from Monday evening (June 22) until midnight in
various parts of Rangamati municipality. Police said the special drive was
launched based on intelligence reports indicating a potential threat to
public order and security in the town.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangamati Kotwali Police Station Md. Jasim Uddin
said that several police teams conducted coordinated raids at different
locations under his leadership following instructions from Rangamati
Superintendent of Police Muhammad Abdur Rakib.
A total of 21 people, including members of AL, suspected troublemakers, and
drug traffickers were arrested during the operation, he said.
The OC added that legal proceedings are being initiated against the detainees
and that all of them were produced before the court on Tuesday (June 23).
Police also said that similar special operations will continue in the future
to ensure public safety and maintain law and order of the district.
