RAJSHAHI, June 23, 2026 (BSS) - A mobile court in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi has fined a person Tk 1 lakh for illegally cutting topsoil from cropland.

The drive was conducted on Monday evening in the Kanaidanga area of the upazila, led by Godagari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Israt Jahan.

Acting on a tip-off, the UNO conducted a surprise raid in the area and found evidence of illegal topsoil cutting from cropland. The offender was fined Tk 1 lakh under the relevant section of the Balumahal and Soil Management Act, 2010, with a provision of further punishment in case of non-payment.

A team of Godagari Model Police Station assisted the mobile court during the operation.

Meanwhile, local residents and farmers welcomed the administration's action, hoping that the drive would help curb illegal topsoil extraction in the area.
