FARIDPUR, June 22, 2026 (BSS) - The authorities have deployed army personnel across the district to thwart any possible security threats centring the founding anniversary of fascist Awami League, activities of which are currently banned.
In line with a government decision, an army contingent entered Faridpur town at around 6 pm today and assumed its responsibilities.
Sources said 125 personnel of the 15 Engineer Regiment (15 RE) Battalion have been deployed in Faridpur under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Imran Hossain.
They will assist the local administration and law enforcement agencies.
Relevant sources said the government has decided to deploy the Army in six districts to help maintain the overall law and order situation across the country centring the Awami League's founding anniversary on June 23.
As part of the move, Army personnel will also remain deployed in the field in Faridpur.
Additional District Magistrate of Faridpur Sushmita Saha said the administration remains on maximum alert to ensure public safety and avoid any untoward incidents.
She further said that, in accordance with government directives, the Army has been deployed for one week under the "In Aid to Civil Power" arrangement.
During this period, the Army will provide necessary assistance to the civil administration, police and other agencies in maintaining law and order.
