Lalmonirhat to roll out vitamin A plus campaign targeting over two lakh children

LALMONIRHAT, June 22, 2026 (BSS) - As part of a major public health initiative, the health authorities in the district have completed extensive preparations to implement the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign 2026, aiming to ensure improved child nutrition and prevent vitamin A deficiency-related health risks.

According to the district Health Department, a total of 211,879 children are scheduled to receive vitamin A capsules across the district. Among them, 22,800 children aged 6 to 11 months will be given blue vitamin A capsules, while 189,079 children aged 12 to 59 months will receive high-dose red capsules.

The campaign will be carried out through 1,125 designated health centers with the support of 2,250 trained volunteers. The distribution program is set to take place on Sunday, June 28, from 9 am to 4 pm without interruption.

Officials said the initiative is aimed at addressing malnutrition, preventing vitamin A deficiency-related blindness, and strengthening children’s immune systems.

A preparatory orientation meeting for journalists was held on Monday afternoon at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room, where details of the campaign were presented.

The meeting was chaired by Civil Surgeon Dr. Abdul Hakim. Deputy Commissioner Md. Rashedul Haque Pradhan attended as the chief guest, while Superintendent of Police Md. Asaduzzaman was present as a special guest. 

Officials from the Department of Family Planning, including Deputy Director Md. Mozammel Haque, along with print and electronic media representatives, also attended the session.

Speakers at the meeting emphasized that Vitamin A supplementation plays a crucial role in ensuring healthy child development and urged parents to bring their children to the nearest centers within the scheduled time.

The campaign forms part of ongoing national efforts in Bangladesh to reduce child malnutrition and improve public health outcomes.
