KCC Administrator stresses full child immunization coverage

KHULNA, June 18, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju today stressed the need for ensuring full immunization coverage for children and strengthening surveillance of communicable diseases to sustain the city's public health achievements.

He made the remarks while addressing a quarterly meeting on Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) and surveillance activities on communicable diseases held this afternoon at the City Health Building on Sher-e-Bangla Road in the city.

The meeting was organised by the KCC Health Department with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) in line with directives from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Speaking as the chief guest, Manju said KCC had achieved notable success in the nationwide measles-rubella vaccination campaign and expressed hope that the upcoming Vitamin A Plus Campaign would also be implemented effectively.

He called for enhanced monitoring in densely populated areas to ensure that no child is left outside immunisation coverage.

"Bringing every missed child under vaccination coverage is the responsibility of health workers. We want to continue our success through the sincere performance of duties by all concerned," he said.

He also instructed field-level health workers and supervisors to promptly report any emerging problems to higher authorities for immediate action.

KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed presided over the meeting.

UNICEF Khulna National EPI Specialist Tapas Kumar Halder and WHO Surveillance and Immunization Medical Officer Nazmur Rahman Sajib attended as special guests. KCC Chief Health Officer Dr Sharif Shammiyul Islam conducted the session.

Earlier in the day, Manju visited several areas of the city to assess obstacles to smooth drainage and water flow.

He inspected the KDA Approach Road, Haji Ismail Road, drains in Nabinagar, Sabujbagh area of Sonadanga, and Miyapara locality.

During the visit, he directed authorities to remove water hyacinths from a pond adjacent to Pollimangal Madrasah and clear bushes along both sides of Chashma Goli in Nabinagar.

He also ordered the removal of silt from drains in Nabinagar, Sabujbagh and Central Road areas to improve the city's drainage system.

KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, social worker Md Asaduzzaman Murad, Kamran Hasan and other local dignitaries were present during the inspection.
