Seminar on economic census report held in Khulna

KHULNA, June 17, 2026 (BSS) - A seminar on the publication of the Economic Census 2024 report, conducted by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), was held this afternoon at the conference room of the Khulna Divisional Commissioner's Office.

Addressing the seminar as the chief guest, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Abdullah Harun said the Economic Census is an important document that supports government policy formulation.

He noted that the census findings reflect a significant transformation in Bangladesh's rural economy.

However, he observed that women's participation and advancement in business activities have not progressed as expected and stressed the need for further efforts in this area.

The divisional commissioner also said that service sectors are being prioritised globally and emphasised the importance of developing a skilled, educated and talented workforce to strengthen the sector in Bangladesh.

Acting Joint Director of the Khulna Divisional Statistics Office Md Abdul Alim presided over the seminar.

The census data showed that the number of economic units in the country rose to 1.17 crore in 2024 from 78.2 lakh in 2013, registering an increase of 49.68 percent over the period.

In Khulna division, the number of economic units reached 14.89 lakh in 2024, including 707,676 permanent units, 61,868 temporary units and 719,901 household-based economic units.

The corresponding figure was 998,791 in the 2013 census, indicating that the number of economic units in the division increased by about 49.12 percent over the past decade.
