CHANDPUR, June 17, 2026 (BSS) - A tumor weighing approximately three kilograms was successfully removed from the abdomen of a 22-year-old woman in Shahrasti upazila of the district through a complex surgical procedure performed at Medilab Hospital and Trauma Center on Tuesday night.

The surgery was conducted by the hospital's chairman and surgeon, Dr. Md. Arif ul Hasan, and lasted around one and a half hours. Hospital authorities said the patient, a resident of Tamta Dakshin union of the upazila, had been suffering from persistent abdominal swelling and pain for a long time.

Following a series of medical examinations, doctors identified a large tumor in her abdomen and recommended immediate surgery. The operation was carried out successfully, and the entire tumor, weighing about three kilograms, was removed.

According to the attending physicians, the patient is currently under medical observation and her condition remains stable.

Speaking about the procedure, Dr. Arif ul Hasan said, “After conducting the necessary tests and confirming the presence of the tumor, we proceeded with the surgery. The tumor was successfully removed, and the patient is now out of danger.”

Dr. Arif has earned recognition in the region for performing complex surgical procedures. Earlier this year, he gained widespread attention after successfully removing an 8.2-kilogram tumor from another woman at the same hospital.

He had also attracted significant media and social media attention in April 2024 for successfully removing a six-inch wooden object lodged in a patient's rectum without requiring any surgical incision.

Local residents and hospital authorities have praised the latest successful operation, describing it as another notable achievement in healthcare services in the district.
