RANGPUR, June 14, 2026 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested the main accused in an extortion, kidnapping and assault case from Bhotmari village under Kaliganj police station of Lalmonirhat district on Saturday night.

The arrested accused is Shahidul Islam alias Shahid, 34, son of late Ataur Rahman of the same village, said a press release signed by RAB-13’s Senior Assistant Director (Media) and Additional Superintendent of Police Biplab Kumar Goswami this afternoon.

Quoting the statement of the case filed by victim Md Masud Rana, the release said that the accused forcibly took him to the godown of accused No 1 Shahidul Islam alias Shahid while he was staying at Bajlar Rahman Shishu Niketan in the nearby area. 

There, the accused beat the victim and snatched away Taka 30,000 from him and asked him to bring another Taka 10,000 from his house. 
 
When the victim refused to pay the money, they beat him again, snatched his motorcycle and mobile phone and threw him out of the godown. 
 
Later, victim Md Masud Rana filed a case with Kaliganj police station of Lalmonirhat district on charges of extortion, kidnapping and assault on November 16, 2026.
 
Based on secret information, a special team of RAB-13 from Rangpur conducted a raid in Bhotmari village of Lalmonirhat and arrested the main accused Md Shahidul Islam alias Shahid at 9.40 pm on Saturday.
 
The accused has been handed over to Kaliganj police station for further legal action.
