RAJSHAHI, June 14, 2026 (BSS) – Experts at a seminar have laid emphasis on combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience to ensure personal safety and health in the workplace.
Combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience is crucial to ensuring safety and health in the workplace, they said while taking part a day-long seminar here on Saturday.
The National Institute of Occupational Health and Safety Research and Training organised the seminar in the institute's conference room in Terokhada in Rajshahi city.
Addressing the seminar, the experts said academics create research-based and evidence-based frameworks while industry representatives have direct experience with workplace risks and implementation challenges.
Through the joint efforts of both sides, it is possible to develop scientifically sound and practical OSH solutions, they added.
The objectives of the seminar is to build an effective bridge between academia and industry for occupational safety and health protection and strengthening cooperation between educational institutions and the industrial sector to develop, promote and implement occupational safety and health knowledge.
Other goals are to align academic curricula with industry needs, increase joint research, encourage applied innovation, facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience, and support policy and institutional development.
Through the seminar, knowledge exchange between academics and industry professionals will increase, evidence-based policy recommendations will be developed, and mutual cooperation will be further strengthened, they opined.
At the same time, based on participants' opinions, a realistic roadmap will be prepared to ensure a safe, decent and sustainable work environment in Bangladesh, the experts told the seminar.
According to seminar sources, they will exchange views on various occupational safety and health issues and work to develop a sustainable framework for future implementation through structured discussions.
With Bulbul Ahmed, Joint Inspector General of the National Institute of Occupational Health and Safety Research and Training, in the chair Professor Dr. Hasnat M. Alamgir of Southeast University presented the keynote paper in the seminar.
Dr. Ashraful Alam of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Dr. Kausarunnahar of Rajshahi Medical College, Mosiur Rahman, Sr. Executive–EHS, ACI Godrej Agrovet Private Ltd, Prof Mansur Rahman, of Rajshahi University, Dr. Emdadul Haque of RUET took part in the discussion.
Other speakers included Dr. Md. Asaduzzaman, of RUET, Prof Dr. Mosharraf Hossain and Dr. Md. Maidul Islam of RUET, Dr. Kazi Mohiuddin Ahmed, Vice-Principal of Islami Bank Medical College and Hospital.
