DINAJPUR, June 13, 2026 (BSS) – National Parliament Whip Akhtaruzzaman Mia, MP, today distributed goats and wheelchairs among rehabilitated beggars and persons with disabilities at a function in Chrirbandar upazila of the district.
Upazila Social Services Department organized the programme at its premises. At the programme, 48 goats among rehabilitated beggars and wheelchairs among 12 persons with disabilities were distributed, as part of a rehabilitation and alternative employment program for people engaged in begging.
Under the initiative, 24 beneficiaries from 12 unions received two-goat each, totaling 48 goats, while 12 persons with disabilities were each given a wheelchair.
Earlier in the day, Whip Akhtaruzzaman Mia attended the Upazila Law and Order Committee meeting, a rally, and a discussion session marking World No Tobacco Day at Ichamati Hall of the upazila Parishad as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Akhtaruzzaman said that Prime Minister's election commitments are being implemented through various development initiatives across the country. Referring to the nationwide tree plantation campaign launched on Saturday, he expressed hope that collective efforts would help transform the country into a greener Bangladesh over the next five years.
Later, he inaugurated a tree plantation program aimed at planting 10,000 saplings in Chrirbandar upazila.
The programs were chaired by Chrirbandar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Fatema-Tuz-Zohra. Among those present were - Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shahana Afroze, Upazila Livestock Officer Md. Raihan Ali, Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Johora Sultana, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Md. Moazzem Hossain Sarkar, Officer-in-Charge of Chrirbandar Police Station Mahmudun Nabi, Upazila Social Services Officer Hamidur Rahman and Press Club President Akhtar Hossain.
