RANGPUR, June 13, 2026 (BSS) - On the occasion of the 127th birth anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Rangpur Sahitya-Sanskriti Parishad (RSSP) organized a special programme here on Friday night.
Held at the city's Rangpur Sahitya Parishad auditorium, the programme was marked by discussions, recitations, dedicated poetry recitations, and music.
RSSP Vice-President Sunil Sarkar presided over the event.
The programme began with the group rendition of two Nazrul songs, "Mora Jhanjhar Mat Uddam" and "Mlan Aloke Phutli Keno".
RSSP Literary Secretary Afzal Hossain delivered the welcome speech.
A comparative discussion was held between poet Kazi Nazrul Islam's 'Bidrohi' and poet Walt Whitman's 'Song of Myself' by writer and cultural figure Dr Mofizul Islam Maantu and eminent literary figure and educationist Professor Mohammad Shah Alam.
Supplementary discussions were held by writers S M Amjad Hossain Sarkar and Muhammad Hanif.
Narayan Chandra Barma, Abdus Salam, Mehedi Masud, Mohsina Akhter Mukta, Purnima Raj and Ashabari participated in the recitation of Kazi Nazrul's poems 'Bidrohi', Coolie Mazur, Badal Raat Pakhi, Nari, Jiban Bandana and Sankalpo.
RSSP advisers, poet Professor Atahar Ali Khan and poet Afzal Hossain recited their self-composed poems dedicated to Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Priyanti Roy, Tathoi Sanal, Doel, Subhasree Roy, Susantika Roy, Barna Roy and Deep Das participated in the group performance of Nazrul Sangeet.
RSSP General Secretary Mamun Ur Rashid moderated the entire programme.
