TANGAIL, May 25, 2026 (BSS) - At least 15 people were killed and nine injured when a rod-laden truck overturned in Kalihati upazila of Tangail early today.
The accident occurred around 4:30 am in Soratoil area on the Dhaka-Tangail highway near the Jamuna Bridge link road.
Tangail Additional Superintendent of Police Fauzia Habib said the truck carrying passengers and rods was heading to northern districts from Chattogram when it lost control and overturned.
"Fifteen people died on the spot and nine were injured and taken to Tangail General Hospital," she told BSS, adding that the cause is under investigation.
Fire Service officials said rescue teams recovered all bodies from beneath the vehicle shortly after the incident.
Hospital sources said 15 bodies were brought to Tangail General Hospital. Of the injured, four were referred to other facilities while five are under treatment.
Tangail General Hospital Deputy Director Dr. Sadikul Rahman said several injured are in critical condition.
Of the 15 victims, six have been identified: Sagar Mia, 20, Robiul Islam, 25, Sarikul, 25, Ismail Hossain, 19, Nazrul, 60 and Mamun, 45. They are from different upazilas of Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj.
An injured passenger, Abdul Rahman, said, "Before we could understand, the truck fell into the ditch. People were screaming everywhere."
Police are working to identify the remaining victims and determine the cause of the crash.
