JASHORE, May 24, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced two drug peddlers to life imprisonment and another accused to two years in prison in a case filed over the recovery of 86 bottles of Indian phensedyl in Sharsha upazila of the district in 2017.
Judge of Special Sessions Judge Court SM Nurul Islam delivered the verdict in the absence of the convicted persons, as all three had absconded after securing bail.
The convicts sentenced to life imprisonment are Saju Baddi and Alamin, both residents of Panchbhulot village in Sharsha upazila. The court also sentenced Mehedi Hasan, another resident of the same village, to two years' imprisonment.
The court fined each of the life convicts Taka 5,000, with an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment in default of payment.
Mehedi Hasan was fined Taka 3,000 and will have to serve an additional three months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.
Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Advocate Anisur Rahman Palash confirmed the verdict.
According to the case statement, members of the Panchbhulot BGB camp conducted a late-night raid in Rajganj village of Sharsha on December 29, 2017, and arrested the accused with 86 bottles of Indian phensedyl.
Following the incident, a case was filed with Benapole Port Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act. After completing the investigation, the investigating officer submitted the charge sheet to the court on January 20, 2018.
The court pronounced the judgment after examining witnesses and hearing arguments in the case over a long period. Arrest warrants have been issued against the absconding convicts.
