KHULNA, May 24, 2026 (BSS) - Police recovered the blood-stained body of a day labourer from the veranda of a mosque adjacent to Joykhali Bridge at Koia Bazar under Harintana Police Station in Khulna early this morning.
The deceased was identified as Dalim Gazi, 41, son of Abul Hossain Gazi and Bhanu Bibi of Maheshwaripur area in Koyra upazila. He worked as a day labourer.
Officer-in-Charge of Harintana Police Station Helal Uddin confirmed the incident.
According to police and local people, devotees coming for Fajr prayers at Baitul Ma'mur Jame Mosque found the body lying on the mosque veranda around 5.30 am and informed police.
Police rushed to the spot and found injury marks on the right side of the victim's head. A blood-stained brick was also recovered from beside the body.
Police suspect that unidentified assailants killed the man by hitting him with a brick and later left the body on the mosque veranda during the night.
A Crime Investigation Department (CID) team collected evidence from the scene before the body was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
OC Helal Uddin said efforts are underway to collect CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify those involved in the killing.
He said the victim had come to Khulna for work and his family members have already been informed.
