BAGERHAT, May 23, 2026 (BSS) – A monthly law and order meeting was held in Mollahat Upazila of the district today.
Speakers at the meeting emphasized stronger coordination among the administration, law enforcement agencies and the public to maintain a stable and peaceful situation.
They also called for increased vigilance to prevent theft, robbery, traffic congestion and drug-related offences, particularly ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha celebrations.
The meeting, chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sumona Airin was held at the Upazila Parishad auditorium under the initiative of the upazila administration this afternoon.
In her speech, UNO Sumona Airin said maintaining law and order is not the responsibility of the administration alone, but a collective duty of all citizens.
She urged public representatives, teachers, political leaders, journalists and conscious residents to work together to build a safe and crime-free upazila.
She said special surveillance would be strengthened in markets, cattle markets, educational institutions and other crowded places ahead of Eid. She also warned against rumours on social media, activities of juvenile gangs and the spread of drugs.
Participants expressed concern over petty crimes, traffic congestion, child marriage, juvenile gangs and other social disorders in different parts of the upazila and urged effective measures to address the issues.
The meeting unanimously stressed continued cooperation between the administration and the public to maintain law and order and called for greater responsibility from all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful environment in the upazila.
Among others, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sadia Sultana, Sub-Inspector Monjir of the police department, Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Hasan Ali, Agriculture Officer Md. Imran Hossain, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Rajib Roy, Md. Harun Al Rashid, former convener Sikder Jamal Uddin, Jamaat leader S. M. Nasir Uddin, Women’s Affairs Officer Runia Akhter, Headmaster S. M. Farid Ahmed, Press Club Mollahat General Secretary M. Mofizur Rahman, Vice President Abdullah Faruk and officials from different government departments, law enforcement members and political and social representatives attended the meeting.
