CUMILLA, May 23, 2026 (BSS) - A four-day colorful celebration marking the 127th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam has begun in the district with the participation of cultural organizations, students, and literary enthusiasts.
The event is being organized with the support of the district administration and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
A vibrant rally was brought out from the Nazrul Institute Centre in Cumilla this afternoon. The procession paraded through different roads of the city before ending at the premises of the District Shilpakala Academy.
Following the rally, floral tributes were placed at the mural titled “Chetonay Nazrul” in honor of the national poet.
Among those present at the event were Deputy Commissioner Md. Reza Hasan, Cumilla City Corporation Administrator Yusuf Molla Tipu, Additional Superintendent of Police Saiful Malik, District Cultural Officer Md. Kamran Hasan, Officer-in-Charge of Nazrul Institute Centre Cumilla Md. Al-Amin, former president of Cumilla Press Club Abul Hasanat Babul, Cumilla Town Hall Member Secretary Sazzadul Kabir Sazzad, and Cumilla Nazrul Parishad General Secretary Ashok Barua, along with leaders of various socio-cultural organizations.
According to district administration sources, several competitions involving students were organized on Friday, May 22, at the Nazrul Institute Centre, including Nazrul music, recitation, essay writing, and painting contests.
The celebration will continue until May 25 with discussion sessions, cultural programs, recitation events, and writing competitions at different venues across the district.
On May 24, discussion meetings and cultural programs will be held in Daulatpur and Muradnagar. Similarly, a discussion program and cultural performances are scheduled to take place at the District Shilpakala Academy on May 25. Educational institutions across the district are also arranging recitation, essay competitions, and cultural activities as part of the celebration.
Member Secretary of the organizing committee and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Saiful Islam has invited people from all walks of life to participate in the programs.
