KHULNA, May 23, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced Md Mokbul Hossain, a former manager of Grameen Bank’s Barodal branch in Ashashuni upazila of Satkhira district, to five years of rigorous imprisonment for embezzling bank funds.

Judge Md Ashraful Islam of the Khulna Divisional Special Judge Court delivered the verdict this afternoon, also fining the convict Taka 48,749. In default of payment, Hossain will have to serve an additional two months of simple imprisonment.

The convict, son of Mojibur Rahman from Shibpur village in Satkhira's Kaliganj upazila, was tried in absentia.

Meanwhile, the court acquitted two other accused in the case -- former Barodal branch manager Biswajit Biswas and former Grameen Bank official Parmananda Mondal -- as the charges against them were not proven.
