JU Prof Amir Hossain appointed JSTU VC

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, May 14, 2026 (BSS) - Professor Dr Mohammad Amir Hossain Bhuiyan of the Environmental Sciences Department at Jahangirnagar University has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Jamalpur Science and Technology University (JSTU). 

The appointment was made with the approval of the President and Chancellor under Section 10(1) of the Jamalpur Science and Technology University Act, 2017, according to a gazette issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education today.

As per the gazette, his tenure will be effective from the date of joining and remain valid for four years or until his retirement date, whichever comes earlier. During his tenure, he will receive salary and allowances equivalent to his current position and enjoy other facilities in accordance with existing rules.

It also stated that the vice-chancellor will serve as the university's chief executive officer and remain stationed on the university campus full-time. The President and Chancellor may cancel the appointment at any time if necessary.

Prof Amir completed both his B.Sc. (Honours) and M.Sc. in Geological Sciences from Jahangirnagar University before earning his PhD in Environmental Earth Sciences from Okayama University.

Dr Amir is known for his research on environmental pollution, climate change, river morphology, water resources management and disaster mitigation.
