NETROKONA, May 14, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 29 families affected by natural disasters in Barhatta upazila of the district received corrugated iron sheets and cash assistance today under the government’s humanitarian assistance program.

The distribution program was organized by the Barhatta Upazila Parishad at its premises on Thursday afternoon.

Member of Parliament for Netrokona-2 (Sadar-Barhatta) constituency and District BNP President Professor Dr. Md. Anwarul Haque attended the event as the chief guest and handed over the assistance among the beneficiaries.

Under the program, each family received two bundles of corrugated iron sheets along with Taka 6,000 as cash. In total, 58 bundles of corrugated iron sheets and Taka 1,74,000 were distributed among the recipients.

Prior to the distribution ceremony, a discussion meeting was held at the Upazila Parishad hall room with Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Jinia Zaman in the chair.

Speaking at the event, Professor Dr. Md. Anwarul Haque said the list of beneficiaries had been prepared through a transparent verification and selection process to ensure that genuine victims received support.

“The government’s humanitarian assistance program will continue to stand beside people affected by natural disasters,” he said.

Among others present were Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Sajedul Islam, Barhatta Police Station Officer-in-Charge Champak Dam, former District BNP Organizing Secretary Shafiqul Quader Shuja, District Krishak Dal President Salauddin Milki, Barhatta Upazila BNP General Secretary Ashiq Ahmed Kamal, former Upazila Chairman Manik Azad and Senior Vice President Akkas Ali.
